Northstar will be Minnesota's first commuter rail service, offering a new experience to many Minnesota commuters. Scroll down to see the route map and learn details about the many features that will make Northstar a premiere transportation alternative.
Northstar will offer many amenities to help ensure that the service is easy to use and that it will be a reliable, comfortable, and for many, productive mode of transportation.
- Northstar will be on-time in any weather (a guaranteed commute of 43-minutes from Big Lake to Minneapolis) and save commuters nearly 900,000 hours in travel time every year.
- Free parking lots and safe, heated stations at each of the six stations.
- 600 air conditioned and heated seats per train, and additional room for standing.
- Work tables and power outlets will enable commuters and students to use laptops and other electronic devices.
- Space will be provided for bicycles.
- Northstar will be handicap accessible, including on-board restrooms that are fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Feeder buses will be at each station and Northstar will connect with the Hiawatha Light Rail transit line in downtown Minneapolis, near the site of the new Twins ballpark.
- Five trains will run from Big Lake to Minneapolis with one reverse trip during weekday mornings. During weekday afternoons & evenings five trains will run from Minneapolis to Big Lake with one reverse trip. Each weekend day, three roundtrips will be provided; as well as, possible special event service.
