Big Lake Station.

Centrally located between Minneapolis and St. Cloud, Big Lake’s Northstar station provides a convenient connection to both major cities, as well as other communities throughout the region. The Big Lake station is located in a growing commercial and residential area that is eager to attract new development.

Big Lake’s small town ambiance, natural scenery and affordable cost of living make the city an attractive place to live. Many leisure activities are within biking distance of the Northstar station. Additionally, Big Lake’s and Sherburne County’s economic development opportunities—including transit-oriented development near the Northstar station—are valuable drivers of the local economy.

Context: The Northstar Corridor Development Authority, together with the Metropolitan Council's Corridors of Opportunity program and Anoka and Sherburne counties conducted a Transit-Oriented Development study of the Northstar Corridor. The study resulted in reports on the potential for economic development in each station city. The following video is from a meeting on June 6, 2013 that featured an overview of the process, results of the study, and a presentation from each city outlining activities and plans for their area.
