Spotlight on Coon Rapids – Riverdale
As the metropolitan’s gateway to the northern suburbs, Coon Rapids and its Northstar station at Riverdale provide a convenient connection to downtown Minneapolis and many communities throughout Anoka County and the region. The Northstar station is located mere blocks from one of the region’s largest retail/business districts, as well as several residential neighborhoods.
Coon Rapids’ business climate is vibrant and diverse. From small, family owned businesses to national retailers and major corporations (Honeywell, Medtronic and others), Coon Rapids is home to many successful companies. Economic development initiatives continue within the city, with several new programs in place to attract prospective business owners and help those that already call Coon Rapids “home.” The variety of transportation options available, including Northstar Rail, help to make Coon Rapids a place where people can easily travel where they need to go.

Context: The Northstar Corridor Development Authority, together with the Metropolitan Council's Corridors of Opportunity program and Anoka and Sherburne counties conducted a Transit-Oriented Development study of the Northstar Corridor. The study resulted in reports on the potential for economic development in each station city. The following video is from a meeting on June 6, 2013 that featured an overview of the process, results of the study, and a presentation from each city outlining activities and plans for their area.
